Newfoundland Series
Angel and the Crows of Memory

My Newfoundland series was inspired by an artist residency in Newfoundland in September 2006. I drew inspiration from my visits to cemeteries, my botanical finds in the wild and in the gardens of friendly Newfoundlanders, and my finds in local flea markets and thrift stores. Each of these environments offered up memories, both of Newfoundlanders and for me.
Newfoundland’s environment also had a profound effect on my artwork: the colours of paint on saltbox houses, the quality of light, and the contrast of delicate shells and flowers found alongside the rough and wild Atlantic Ocean.
